I haven't quite worked up the excitement for sock knitting just yet. Right now that seems a little more difficult than I'm willing to try for at the moment. I want to finish my first sweater before I tackle that territory. Still, I wonder... do I need new socks?

Yep. It definitely looks like you are in need of new socks. Pick up the needles and go for it! But be aware of the fact that once you start knitting socks it's all down hill, you'll find yourself knitting socks when you should eb knitting other things :-)
