Magic Join? Russian Join?

This thing called the magic ball join method has been coming up on a lot of the crochet blogs I've been reading.  Very curious.  Dot at Crochet by the Hook has a very cool scarf pattern on her site that uses two strands of yarn at a time.  Take a look at her Scrap Happy Scarf. 

I see a goodly amount of stashbusting in my future....
