Yes, I have a fashion rant. Really, it's not so much about fashion as it is about fashion writers and editors and all those sorts of people who think they know more about clothing than the rest of us. I'm talking about the people who live fashion, breathe fashion, lust for fashion. The ones who earn a living from fashion.
Could someone pretty please tell me why these fashion dictators CANNOT tell the difference between KNIT and CROCHET?!!!
I wondered if it was a US/Europe thing like rubbers and erasers. Maybe everything done with yarn is called knit in Europe. But that doesn't explain the glaring error in most American magazines, does it?
But this clearly crocheted beret is "crochet knit".
While this little crochet number is just crochet.
Here is another crochet item described as "open knit"(??)
It seems to me if you have to know the difference between a cotton twill and a cotton gab, that you should be able to discern knit from crochet.
Anyhoo, I got these items from Net-A-Porter.com (awfully clever name) which is great for checking out the latest fashion offerings. When you visit, don't look at the prices - it'll just freak you out. I apologize to them here and now for hotlinking everything in this post. I ought to know better. I'll fix it in a minute, I swear.
post script: hotlinks have been removed and a burden of guilt has been lifted from my shoulders.
The Japanese patterns have it worst. I have an entire book called Hot Knits when everything in it featured is crochet work. LOL

Ah, I ignored your warnings! I saw something cute I liked and I looked at the price, and know I have to clean the poop from myself.
