I've been searching for something to do to help the victims of Hurricane Katrina. I wish there was a way to get involved with individual families. The whole thing is just so beyond comprehension - can you imagine your whole city under several feet of water? I heard an emergency phone call on the radio yesterday. A man lost his wife because they were on the roof of their house and the house split in two and he couldn't hold on to his wife. She told him to take care of their children and grandchildren before she was swept away in the current. The 911 operator was crying as she was taking his information.
And here I sit all warm and cozy with all my possessions around me, knowing that, hey - it's southern California, it's just a matter of time, right? Pretty soon we'll need our own disaster relief. Let's hope we're a little better organized when that happens.
I did find a listing of organizations that are helping with the relief effort. Check out this from Instapundit. I picked this up from Mason-Dixon Knitting. Does anyone know information about our fellow bloggers? All I knew was Yarn Yoga and she hasn't updated her blog in a while. I checked the RAOK database last night and she was the only listed with a LA address. How about from the other affected states?
Yes, it is hard to believe and yes, I hope when it's L.A. time, we will be better prepared. I have a bit of info listed on my blog also for help with Katrina. Thanks for your link.
