Hi,
Welcome. Or Re-welcome to the new Make Me.
I've been so excited about the new blog. The old blog had gotten sort of staid and rambly. It had no mission, no purpose. Just some words and some poor photographs.
But I started thinking about why I had started the blog in the first place. I wanted it to be a companion piece to my beloved yet now dearly departed Expression magazine.
Can I tell you how much I miss Expression?
Anyway, I started thinking why can't I just turn the blog into what I loved about Expression? I mean, I loved that so many different people came together to share what they loved about creating and art and craft.
So, to that end, Make Me has a new mission statement: The journey to discover your creative soul. I really believe that everyone has something creative in them and it always makes me sad when I hear people say, "I'm not creative." Either they don't want to do anything creative or they just aren't willing to be patient and find their niche.
Creativity is in the way you frame a photograph or season a dish. It's how you choose colors for your wardrobe or lay out your dinner table. It's not making your own underwear from your handgrown cotton and writing your own family Christmas carols. We always want to overthink and overdo; we want to make things more difficult than they need to be so we can have a greater sense of accomplishment. This is silly.
Embrace your creative self. However small and puny that voice may be. Even if it is telling you to use the marker font instead of Times New Roman for your holiday letter this year. That's all it takes. One small step. Do it. The world is your creative oyster.
I agree with you. Some people might not be creative as far as arts and crafts, but they are creative in other areas. Some have not found out what they can do. I believe people should try to do at least one thing they want to do. It often leads into many things and they'll find something they can master. Or just be a jack of all trades.
